Modern new building provides primary care services for 20,000 patients
Development of a new medical centre in Churchdown, Gloucestershire, which will provide primary care facilities for up to 20,000 local patients, has been completed by construction firm, Stepnell.
The £2.7m Churchdown Medical Centre in Parton Road has been purpose built for Brackley Investments and replaces the 50-year-old Churchdown Surgery in St John’s Avenue.
Larger than its predecessor, the 1,191sq m centre provides consultation space for 13 GPs – including training space – as well as two nurse consulting rooms and four treatment rooms.
Accessible via lift, two multi-purpose rooms for health promotion and educational use, complete with their own waiting area, are situated on the first floor, along with administrative areas and staff welfare facilities including a training room/library and a quiet area. A 130sq m pharmacy with consultation room has also been built on the site.
As part of the development, Stepnell created a 65-space car park with two electric car charging points, 12 bicycle spaces, and landscaped the surrounding grounds.
The energy-efficient centre features photovoltaic solar panels on the roof helping it achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ standard for sustainability.
The centre has been sensitively designed by Thomas Wilson Architects to complement the surrounding residential area, featuring traditional brick and render walls and a trussed roof with concrete tiles.
